We have all had that feeling to want to crack our own neck or back. It is normal to feel that way and have a desire to relieve the pain associated with it. However, just because it is normal, does not mean it is a good practice. In fact, it can do damage to your spine and muscles. It may even increase the chances of a stroke at some point in your life. We urge those that do this to try to break the habit. So, what can you do instead? The best way to deal with back and neck pain is to see an upper cervical chiropractor.

It's understandable that when a person wants relief, they want it immediately. They may want to wait to see a chiropractor until it is absolutely unbearable. However, if you can answer yes to any of the following questions, it can indicate you have a weak spine and need to be diligent about seeking upper cervical care.

  • Do you feel soreness or sensitivity when you press on the spot behind your ears just below the head?
  • Are you unable to move your head from side to side easily?
  • Do you have neck or shoulder pain?
  • Do you have back pain, particularly middle or lower back?
  • When you move, do you ever experience dizziness or vertigo?
  • Do you have decreased range of motion?
  • Do you have numbness or a pins-and-needles feeling in your fingers or toes?
  • Do you have a lot of headaches or migraines?
  • Does your neck click when moving from one side to the other?
  • Have you ever had a concussion from head trauma?
  • Have you been diagnosed with scoliosis?
  • Is one of your legs longer than the other?
  • Do you have oversensitive vision?

Answering yes to any of these means it is time to seek out the care of Dr. Scott Hanson of Brooks Spinal Care in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Upper cervical spinal care is so gentle and specific that the chiropractors that practice it do not even crack the spine. They use an effective, risk-free technique that focuses on realigning the vertebrae in the upper neck, allowing healing of the whole body.
