Vertigo has become a hot topic as the condition becomes more common. Even the New York Times has featured articles on this subject. However, news articles often focus on the latest medications for treating vertigo rather than on what the condition is. Let’s take a closer look at vertigo.

Vertigo – What Is It?
Basically, when a doctor says vertigo, they are referring to dizziness. Vertigo occurs when the room seems to be spinning around a person. It is a common symptom of Meniere’s disease and is often associated with tinnitus, the medical term for ringing in the ears. Consider the following statistics:
  • 40% of people 40 and over will experience vertigo
  • 2.5% of ER visits during 1995-2004 were due to vertigo
  • The most common form (about 90% of cases) is called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

Vertigo – How to Treat It
There is a wide variety when it comes to common treatments. However, many medications have proved to be ineffective on a consistent basis. On the other hand, German researchers discovered that 20 of 31 patients in a vertigo study had upper cervical misalignments. Is this important to treatment?
Yes! Upper cervical chiropractors can fix the misalignment that causes many cases of vertigo. Once the misalignment is corrected, you may find that you no longer need medication to help with your condition.
If you live in or near Tulsa, Oklahoma, your source for upper cervical care is Brooks Spinal Care. Here you can acquire a diagnosis of a misalignment as well as treatment to restore the body’s spine to normal. Once this occurs, the body can often once again find its equilibrium.

I am glad to see that there are several ways on how to treat vertigo the right way. It's a good thing that we all have it right now, but we need to know that some of the said "solutions" do not work the way we expect it to work. But looking at the study posted above, I can feel that getting your vertigo relieved through this way will always be possible. It's a good thing that it worked on several patients already. It serves as a proof that there are effective ways to treat vertigo.
